What is the Tier 2 Sponsor List and where can I find it?
The Tier 2 sponsor list can be found here, on the UK Border Agency’s website.
The list is a pdf document issued by the UKBA, detailing all of the companies that are currently licensed to sponsor Tier 2 (General) Work Permits. It lists the company name, their location (county and town), and the type of sponsorship license they have. It also shows whether they have an A or B rating.
Note that the list is only a snapshot and changes regularly.
Using the Tier 2 Sponsor List
The list is most useful for checking if a company is already licensed to sponsor work permits.
Some people attempt to contact every single company on the list, but we advise against this for a number of reasons:
- There are 20,000+ companies on the list. That’s a lot of unsolicited companies and a potential waste of time.
- Many of these companies are tiny and have nothing to do with your profession.
- A non-personalised e-mail rarely gets a good response, partially because it just looks like spam.
- If a company is having difficulty recruiting someone like you, they may consider registering for the list so they can employ you directly.
If you want to dig deeper, you can check a site like www.duedil.com/ for financial information about the company, their directors, and their filings.
There are companies and websites out there that charge for a copy of the list, along with contact details. Personally, we think these are a waste of money but, hey, it’s your money.
