Further German Work Permit Information As mentioned above: work permits in Germany are subject to specific requirements that are idiosyncratic to Germany:
·Work permits (Arbeitsgenehmigung) or “regularization” are issued for one year (Arbeitserlaubnis-EU)
.All non-EU nationals are required to obtain a full work and residence permit (some EEA nations are still not afforded full authorization without permits).
– It is almost impossible to get an Arbeitserlaubnis (German Work Permit) for a role that doesn’t require professional qualifications. This is outlined in the Beschäftigungsverordnung(link is external).
·Work Permit processing time depends on the Ausländerbehörde (office responsible for foreign citizens), it can be up to 10-12 weeks (longer if a Labor Market Test is required.
– Work Permits are issued for each job / employer. If you change jobs you will need to apply for a new work permit. ·Business visitors and visa holders are restricted to specific tasks.
·Candidates already on a visitor status (tourist/business etc.) may not transfer to work status with the exception of a few nationalities: Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the US.
– Under the Vorrangprinzip (Priority Principle), Arbeitserlaubnis (Work Permits) are only given if the job cannot be filled by a German or EU national.
